Upstate Powers New York
Upstate New York has a wide range of energy generation facilities including nuclear, gas, co-gen, hydro, wind and solar.
Nuclear
Upstate New York’s three nuclear energy plants — including FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant and Nine Mile Point Generating Station in Oswego County and Ginna Nuclear Generating Station in Wayne County — help power New York and provides jobs, clean air and reliable energy.
Losing any one of these plants would have devastating impacts on the State’s economy, environment and the stability of our electric grid. It is imperative that we adopt public policies that help preserve these valuable assets, such as Governor Cuomo’s Clean Energy Standard.
A Brattle Group analysis found that the benefits of keeping upstate nuclear power plants open far exceeds the costs. The report found that the majority of carbon emissions — 75 percent — avoided by the Clean Energy Standard, in its early years, are attributable to upstate nuclear. Read the report here.
